  • Yoga for children aged five years and up.

The word Yoga means to join or unite. It is the means by which our mind can be made still, quiet and free from all distractions. The body is the house in which heart and mind are reunited. When we practice Yoga, we try to bring back together the light of our heart and the light of our mind to make them one – a natural process like the light of the night replacing the light of the day.

Isabelle’s book will help you for sure. It is an opportunity for you guys to discover or improve Yoga, it’s made for you. I believe in it and I do so that my daughter and son already enjoy Yoga practice regularly. Now it’s your turn to enjoy it! Have fun – stay cool!

This small paperback volume is a wonderful guide to Yoga for children. With interesting photo and illustration montages for each exercise and a lyrical description of the movements, it would be easy to follow, even for toddlers, with help from an adult. Helping to improve flexibility, balance, breathing and all-round well-being. Yoga is an enjoyable activity for children and this book is a charming introduction.

Author Isabelle Koch, a French Yoga teacher who was first introduced to Yoga when she lived in New Zealand, has illustrated it with photographs of her daughter, Garance, doing the postures, and line and wash drawings. It will appeal to parents who practice Yoga and want their children to learn.

A delightful book, the best I’ve seen on Yoga for children and the young in heart. It is full of knowledge, and especially good is that it is about the whole of Yoga not merely presenting a physical approach, as is becoming so common today... the importance of awareness of the breath is explained and the use of breath in postures, the benefits of each posture are mentioned and there is a section on relaxation, visualisation, meditation – all the aspects which make Yoga so unique and wonderful. It is also beautifully illustrated. I recommend it.

The practice of Yoga gives mental peace at the same time as a consciousness of one’s own body. Certain postures develop suppleness and balance, others strengthen muscles.

Yoga is so much a part of my life now that in my books, Babar’s daughter practiced it with two friends. This little girl is called Isabelle, after and in honour of Isabelle Koch... she realised what I only imagined: to teach Yoga to her daughter. I never thought that children could really practice Yoga. Of course they are supple, but can they accept the slow rhythm which follows the breathing (as they never rest – well, only in their sleep!)? As a Yoga teacher, Isabelle Koch has found how to speak to them and how to interest them.
