Search for the Feathered Serpent is a sequel to Dr van Dorp’s earlier books Crystal Mission and Trail of the Hawk, and also retells them in brief summary.
It is a record of the doctor’s own personal journey as he tried to make sense out of life, from his earlier days in medical school and general practice, his time with Greenpeace as base doctor at the Antarctic base – where in 1987 he had a cathartic experience at the time of the Harmonic Convergence – and his personal travels throughout South America, following the signs and synchronicities and seeing where they would take him.
In Search for the Feathered Serpent, Cornelius van Dorp focuses – through the means of a mystical stone-trail to Mexico and its ancient peoples, from whom the timing of the Harmonic Convergence came – on a search for Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent.
At the end of the journey the realisation comes that the feathered serpent can be found within us all, that the historical figures have been guides for this time – the climatic end of one great Mayan cycle and the beginning of the next – and that the time is here now for us all to wake up to our true natures as cosmic beings.
At long last comes this third book in the series started by Crystal Mission and followed by Trail of the Hawk. The author returns to Mexico and South America to discover the dark and light in himself, in ourselves and its effects on people throughout the world through generations.

It’s hard to know what to make of a book like this. It would be easy to close the mind and dismiss van Dorp’s recounting of his experiences and his view of the world as New Age, mystical nonsense.
The author is a doctor in Northland who has travelled widely seeking a deeper knowledge of human history and experiences. He writes from a perspective there is much more guiding our lives from day to day and our destinies than what appears on the surface.
Search for the Feathered Serpent doesn’t feel compelling enough to sway many from their current positions, but approached with an open mind, it may spark interest...

We picked up two large rental vans the next day and headed north on Highway 17, Lucy and I leading the way in a small, white rental car. Just on sunset we arrived at Merlin’s house in Cornville. He showed us where to park in his capacious frontyard alongside a run of hens and turkeys, before inviting us into a double garage underneath the house which he had cleaned out that day. He apologised for the strong small of cats’ urine – the cats had just had a litter of kittens in there.
Scully sat on a chair by the door, hiding behind me and peering around at Merlin with a grim expression on her face. To Scully, the smell was an extremely bad sign. “We may have to leave here very soon,” she whispered in my ear. To make matters worse, Merlin then brought out a carton of Mexican beer. When he tried to press us to have a drink, no one was inclined but he started drinking them himself anyway, one after the other
He had been working all day cleaning out the garage and was thirsty, he explained. He was also looking forward to a busy weekend of channeling, which would be a very intensive experience. Merlin told us how he come to work in channeling. He had been flying helicopters in Vietnam. One day things were looking very bad until a strange light surrounded the helicopter and he flew through a firestorm unscathed. He had felt powerful protection and subsequently had learnt how to open himself and communicate with the energies that were responsible. Initially the entity or energy he channeled was Jehovah; then Logos.
I sat in the stench of cats’ piss and checked him out, as did Scully behind me with the help of her tupunas. Could this man now have Ray Brown’s Pyramid Crystal? He was a normal-looking man in his fifties, slightly balding, drinking heavily. Eventually someone asked him if he knew of a crystal ball from the Bermuda Triangle? He did. Someone had received it from Ray Brown who had died a year earlier. Merlin had got it from this person. He recounted the story of Ray Brown finding the crystal in an underwater pyramid in the Bermuda Triangle. Then he disappeared into the house to get it.
Scully refused to touch it when he came back to the garage, but asked him to give the crystal to me instead. He seemed reluctant but dropped it into my outstretched left hand. I held it on the tips of my fingers for about 20 seconds and looked into it. Immediately the blood rose to the surface of my hand, flushing red. My initial impression was of an extremely powerful instrument that was not Ray Brown’s Pyramid Crystal. It seemed smaller and I could not see the smoky pyramids that I remembered so clearly from seven years earlier.
I told Merlin that I had met Ray Brown and handled his crystal and I wasn’t too sure that this was the same one. I asked him to bring it back again and sit with the group while he held a meditation. He agreed. He returned holding it against his white shirt and this time I saw the smoky pyramids inside. I recognised that it was indeed Ray Brown’s crystal and I was truly amazed. The Maori women had been led directly to it through a dream!
